ZAKAR MANHOOD
You were created by God as a man, according to His design. His desire is to shape you into a godly man who lives for Christ in wholehearted surrender and sacrificial love.
The Old Testament word for “remember” and “male”
have the same Hebrew root (ז־כ־ר): ZAKAR
זָכַר (zākar) — “to remember with action”
זָכָר (zākār) — “male”
(1) REMEMBER:
call something to mind and respond to it with faithfulness. It is an action of loyalty.
“As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”
- actively bringing something to mind in order to act on it
- God moving toward His people with His covenant faithfulness
(2) MALE, HIM, MAN:
the biological and covenantal counterpart to neqevah (female).
But in Scripture, ‘zakar’ carries a role — it's not just a sex category. ‘Male’ is also “the outward representative.”
Across the Old Testament, ‘zakar’ functions as responsible for:
- Family (Protect. Provide. Procreate.)
- plus
- civic & religious duties.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
